Elgin, IL - An epic comeback was not to be on Saturday afternoon for the Eagles. JU fell to Governors State 77-73 after a frantic comeback bid came up just a bit short.
With 8:30 left in the second half, the Eagles found themselves down 23 points, but they battled back to get within a single possession of the Jaguars in the final two minutes. In that run, it started with some hard, contested defense. Kae Anderson had some key steals that led to fast break points, and Sam Ellis played big down low with key rebounds that sprung baskets at the other end.
Finn Walsh added a couple of 3-point buckets, and Sam Stewart provided a huge effort down low. Judson outscored Gov St in the paint 42-30, and outshot them 44% to 38%, but the Jaguars came away with the lead in the most important category; the final score.
For the Eagles, they simply ran out of time as the spirited run fell just shy of what would have been a memorable victory.
JU will get back at it on Thursday night when they step out of conference for a matchup with Mount Vernon Nazarene.
