Eagles Win On Goal Line Stop
Streamwood, IL - In the 2024 season opener, the game went down to the wire with the Eagles pulling out the victory with 1 second remaining. In a game that went back and forth, Judson earned a hard fought victory over the Madonna Crusaders 28-27 thanks to a 2 point conversion stop. The win is the first career head coaching victory for Head Coach Quintin Demps.
The Eagles got the scoring started in the 1st quarter with a Grant Alexander Jr. 24-yard reception from quarterback Jake Parker.
In the second quarter, Parker connected with Avant Rowe for a 71-yard catch and run hook up.
The game was tied at 14 at halftime.
After intermission, the Eagles were able to tack on two more touchdowns. Mario Combs made a house call from 43 yards out, and James Muetterties from 3 yards out.
In his first start, Parker went for 16-27 for 236 yards and 4 touchdowns against one interception.
In the final quarter, Madonna made it a game on the ground with a strong rushing attack.
Down seven with 4 minutes left, the Crusaders took one final march toward the end-zone, and with 1 second left, were able to punch in six points. On the PAT try, Madonna went for the win and the two-point conversion. But on the play, the Judson defense was able to build a wall to stuff the attempt short.
After a winless 2023 campaign, the Eagles start off this season as victors.
Avant Rowe finished with 4 catches for 90 yards and a touchdown, Alexander went 5 catches for 72 yards and a score.
Jay Callentine led the defense with 7 tackles, and Kieran Berry tallied 2 sacks.
The Eagles will travel to Taylor next week looking to go 2-0.
