Eagles Show Fight Against USF
Joliet, IL - It was cold, rainy, and windy, but the Eagles showed some fight against the Saints of St. Francis on Saturday afternoon. Judson moved the ball well, had their best offensive output of the season, but it was the Saints that ultimately came out on top 56-26. With the victory, USF moved to 5-2 (1-2), with the Eagles falling to 0-6 (0-3).
Despite the conditions, JU moved the ball throughout the contest. However, two early punt miscues gave St. Francis very short fields in which they capitalized on.
For quarterback Aydan Edwards, it was a solid stat line for the transfer junior. He went 20-30 for 222 yards and three touchdwons. The Eagles 26 points is their highest point total of the season to date. A second half drive that resulted in a touchdown, Edwards led the squad down the field for a 10-play 90 yard drive. That is the type of potential that the Eagles have on offense.
Junior running back Brandon Mackey on the ground tallied 13 carries for 127 yards. Mackey also threw a first quarter touchdown pass on a jump ball to tight end Jeff Delaney.
On the receiving end of Edwards' passes was once again Anthony Cathcart hauling in eight catches for 48 yards. In addition to that, was the big day posted by sophomore wideout, Grant Alexander. Alexander put up nine catches for 157 yards and two trips to the endzone.
The offense continues to show signs of big play capabilities. After a challenged week of practice, in nasty conditions, they performed.
In addition to the two punt miscues early on, another momemtum swinger was USF putting the ball on the ground four times, but recovering all of them. A turnover here and there, could have surely turned the tide.
On defense, Jay Callentine led the Eagles with 11 tackles, and Josh Mason added nine.
JU will now get a week off before their final three games of the season. The Eagles final game will be at home on November 11th against these same Saints. With a month left in the season, the Eagles will look to keep progressing in the right direction. They are showing fight, and the offense is starting to click. For the final three contests, it will be encouraging to see what the Eagles have in store.
