Eagles Travel to Concordia for Battle of the Birds
Elgin, IL - After a week off, the Judson Eagles Football team is preparing for game two of the season. It will be a battle of the birds on Saturday the 16th at 1:00 PM EST, as JU will travel to Ann Arbor, MI for an MSFA cross-over matchup with the Concordia University Cardinals.
Concordia is 2-0 on the season defeating Taylor 54-14, and Olivet Nazarene 34-28. After facing Marian University in game one, this is Judson's second of three cross-over matchups.
The Cardinals will look to move the ball thru the air. Junior quarterback Gavin Brooks has thrown for over 300 yards in both games with five touchdown passes. His two big targets are wide receivers Jordan Garcia and Seeger Degayner. Garcia in two games has 14 catches, 201 yards, and one score. Degayner has posted 15 catches, 239 yards, and three scores.
Judson will counter with their talented back, Brandon Mackey who had 117 total yards in game one. Also, speedy wide-outs Anthony Cathcart and Grant Alexander will look to build off of solid game one performances. Together, they combined for 6 grabs, 149 yards, and a touchdown.
The Eagles showed in game one the ability to create big plays on the outside and get big chunks of yards. They will look to strike for more big plays against the Cardinals this week.
On defense, Jay Callentine led the way with eight tackles in game one, while EJ Glover added a sack, and Josh Mason had five tackles.
