Eagles Early Offense Not Enough in 58-21 Loss to #18 St. Xavier
Chicago, Ill. The Judson University Eagles took a 21-7 first-half lead on Saturday prior to a strong second half from St. Xavier in a 58-21 loss to the 18th-ranked cougars.
Judson converted on early opportunities in the contest. After the Eagles trailed 7-0, Judson came back with a 25-yard touchdown pass from Aubrey Williams to Jaquavious Wise (Negil Bruce 2-point run) to cap a six-play, 73-yard drive to take an 8-7 lead. In the second quarter, the Eagles scored twice on a rushing touchdown by Aubrey Williams from two yards out. Williams then found Michael Porter from five yards out with five minutes remaining in the half to take a 21-7 lead. St. Xavier scored 16 consecutive points in the final five minutes of the half, followed by all 35 second-half points to pull away from Judson.
Aubrey Williams had 195 yards passing on 16 competitions with two touchdowns and two interceptions. Brandon Mackey had 71 yards on the ground on 13 carries, which were both team highs. Negil Bruce had 47 yards rushing on 9 rushes. Jaquavious Wise led Judson with five receptions and 145 yards receiving, including the score.
Defensively, the Eagles were led by Caleb Williams' nine tackles (5 solo-4 assisted). EJ Glover had seven tackles (3-4) and a half-sack. Jontrell Mitchell had seven total tackles (1-6), including a half tackle for a loss. Chance Cregeen had six tackles (3-3) and an interception. D'Carius Davis had a forced fumble, and Eian Patry had the recovery.
Judson (3-6, 2-3 MSFA) return to action next week in St. Louis against Missouri Baptist.
