Eagles Earn Second Home Win in 30-20 Victory Over Roosevelt
Elgin, Ill. The Judson University Football Team is now at .500 in conference play with its second home victory and its third win of the season with a 30-20 victory over Roosevelt.
The day also marked the first-ever senior recognition, as offensive linemen Ryan Erickson and Wesley Thompson were honored by the school for their achievements in helping start the football program.
The offense looked sharp early as the Eagles scored twice in the first half of the first quarter. Sherond Boyd had a one-yard TD rush to give the Eagles an early lead (Aubrey Williams was successful in a two-point try). Williams then found Jaquavious Wise from 20-yards out at the 7:42 mark to give Judson a 14-0 lead. Roosevelt scored to start the second quarter. Judson answered late in the third when Williams from Dakari Ferguson from a yard out (Williams was successful again for two). Brandon Mackey had a one-yard TD rush to ice it late and O'Vauntay Vickers was successful on a two-point catch in the far left end zone corner. Roosevelt had a pair of scores in the fourth quarter, but it was not enough.
Wise led all receivers with 90 yards and a score. Vickers added 68 yards of receiving in addition to the conversion. Brandon Mackey had 75 total yards (55 rush, 19 receiving) and a score. Aubrey Williams had 192 yards passing with two scores and a pick. Defensively, David Dunbar had six tackles, a forced fumble, and a recovery. Franklin Sayers had four total tackles, while Emmanuel White also contributed with a tackle for a loss.
"Great win for the program!" Said Head Coach Dan Paplaczyk. "We bounced back after a really rough game last week and we played our most complete game. All three phases contributed and helped us lead from the start. I'm proud of our guys. We learned how to win a close game a couple of weeks ago, but this week we learned how to win with a lead and finish a game off. Great way to send our two seniors, Ryan and Wes out!"
Judson (3-5, 2-2 MSFA) returns to action next Saturday as the Eagles face #21 St. Xavier on the road in Chicago, Illinois.
