Eagles Take Three Of Four In First Home Series
Elgin, IL - This weekend saw the Eagles play their first set of home games this spring at Hoffer Field taking on the visiting Viterbo V-Hawks. Due to scheduling, all four games in the series were in Elgin, a change from the normal two homes games, and two away games.
On Friday afternoon, the Eagles quickly came from behind in game one, after being down 3-0 after a half inning. The Eagles had 11 hits, with Kevin Flores leading the way with three RBIs. Alijah Acevedo pitched six innings, and was credited with the victory. It is his first win on the season. Max Amendt pitched the final inning for the save. JU took the win 7-5.
In game two on Friday, Judson once again had 11 hits, but another fast start by the V-Hawks was enough to propel them to the victory 6-3, and a Friday split. Acevedo was the hitting leader in the game with three hits. Nate Stempowski added two hits.
On Saturday afternoon, a much calmer wind was the setting for Judson's top two arms to take the mound. In game one, Ryan Risch was steller. After yielding a first inning home run, he settled in to allow just the one run on three hits. Risch struck out five batters on his way to his fifth win on the season (5-1).
Once again, the Eagles pounded out 11 hits for the game. Kyle Schwartz had three hits with two RBIs. Blake Stempowski had two hits and two RBIs. The Eagles took the win 9-1.
In game two Saturday, the Eagles tallied 13 hits giving them 46 hits for the four game series. Averaging 10 hits a game will certainly keep you in a lot of ball games, and right now, through the first week of conference games, JU is swinging some hot bats.
Alijah Acevedo had four hits with three RBIs in the game. Acevedo and Hudson Deal were able to play long ball in the series finale. For Acevedo, it was his third home run on the season.
For Deal, it is home run number six on the season, and number four for the week.
Matt Armstrong also had two hits and two RBIs in the game. JU was able to win the finale running away 9-2.
On the mound Adrian Nery was solid again. He went six innings, giving up two earned runs, and striking out three. Nery is 3-0 on the season.
Nico Acevedo was credited with the three inning save.
It was a very strong opening conference week for Judson. They went 5-1 on the week, and are 13-10 overall.
They will be back at the Hoff on Tuesday afternoon hosting Calumet in a double header.
