Nery Named CCAC Pitcher Of The Week
Elgin, IL - For the week ending March 17th, the Eagles' Adrian Nery was named the weekly CCAC Pitcher of the Week.
During the week, Nery was excellent in Judson's conference opener against IU-SB. In the game he tossed a complete game 2-hit shutout to get the Eagles in the win column 4-0. Nery was efficient and was never really in trouble throughout the game. He only walked one, allowed no runs, and struck out seven batters.
On a very rare home Sunday start, Nery nearly did it again. He was just two outs away from notching win number two for the week. Against a game Defiance College squad, he cruised through the first three innings, before a small bump in the road in the 4th and 5th innings. It was not until the 7th inning where things went astray.
But still, Nery allowed just two earned runs, yielded only seven hits and two walks, and again struck out seven batters.
Nery has shown that he has the ability to be one of the Eagles' more reliable arms logging already 29 innings in six appearances. He leads the team currently in innings pitched and strikeouts.
This marks the second week in a row that an Eagle has won a weekly award on the diamond. Last week, Jake Angelo was named the Conference Player of the Week after hitting three home runs during a weekend set.
Nery is expected to make his next start this week against the Trinity Christian Trolls.
