Crestwood, Ill. The Judson University Baseball Team Completed at Doubleheader at Roosevelt on Tuesday as the Eagles lost game one 9-8 in 10 innings and fell 6-5 to the Lakers in game two.
Game one was the completion of a seven-inning suspended game from April 11 in Elgin. Judson scored first in the bottom of the first inning on a Ben Nelson homer to left field that scored Taylor Abercrombie and Timmy Ellinger. Judson retook the lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third. Ellinger scored on a wild pitch, while Nelson hit an RBI single to center. Judson trailed 8-5 heading to the bottom of the fourth inning. Jordan Babock hit an RBI triple to score Christopher Marlin. Babcock then scored on an RBI single from Giovanni Davila to pull within one. Judson tied the game on a sacrifice fly to right field to score Ben Nelson to tie the game at eight. The game remained tied until the 10th when Roosevelt pushed across their ninth run.
Jake Bianco got the start for the Eagles and pitched 3.2 innings, allowing eight earned runs on seven hits while walking six and striking out two. Brandon Callender pitched 4.1 innings of shutout relief allowing four hits and one walk while striking out three. Zach Rojas (3-4) pitched 1.2 innings, allowing the go-ahead run on three hits while striking out two.
In game two, the Eagles took the early lead as Babcock scored on a wild pitch to open the scoring in the first. Later on in the inning, Alec MacLennan hit into an RBI fielder's choice to score Ellinger. In the second inning, Judson extended its lead to 3-0 on a Giovanni Davila sacrifice fly. Judson did not score again until the eighth when MacLennan hit an RBI single to score Nelson. Ian Gonzalez added an RBI single to score Joshua Taylor to give the Eagles the brief lead. Roosevelt scored twice in the ninth to come away with the victory.
Matthew Johnston pitched six innings, allowing four earned runs on six hits as he allowed one walk and struck out four. Jason Klemm pitched 1.1 scoreless innings of relief. Zach Rojas allowed two runs on four hits in an inning of work to suffer the loss.
Judson (9-30, 6-18) faces Calumet this weekend for a three-game set. The Eagles will need to sweep the series to ensure a conference tournament berth.
