Angelo Hits Solo Shot in Rubber Game Loss to St. Ambrose
Elgin, Ill. The Judson University Eagles hosted St. Ambrose for the third time in two days as the weather in Iowa led the contest to played in Illinois. Once again, Judson served as the "road" team in this game as the Eagles fell to St. Ambrose 17-3.
Judson got their offense going in the second inning. Alec Spang walked and then was replaced by Max Freund on the basepaths. a Benjamin Nelson walk allowed Judson to have two one with no one out. A two-base wild pitch led Judson to get their first run of the game. Two batters later, Mitchell Stempowski hit a sacrifice fly that scored Nelson to get Judson a two-run inning without recording a base hit. In the sixth inning, Jake Angelo hit a solo home run to get Judson its third run of the contest. Judson's only other hit in the contest was a Luke Staerkel double to left field with two outs in the sixth inning.
Six Eagles pitched in the contest. Taylor Abercrombie got the start and allowed five earned runs on one hit and four walks before being removed for Jake Bianco. Bianco pitched 2.1 innings, allowing four runs on four hits while walking five and striking out two. Jason Klemm had a scoreless relief appearance, pitching 0.2 innings and only allowing one hit. Alex Taylor pitched 2.2 innings, allowing a run on three hits while striking out one.
Judson (9-28, 6-16 CCAC) faces Roosevelt on Tuesday. The teams will continue a suspended game at noon and then complete a nine-inning affair afterward.
