Bourbonnais & Elgin, IL The Judson Baseball Program faced Olivet Nazarene for a weekend series on Thursday and Friday. The Eagles lost game one at Olivet 10-4 on Thursday prior to hosting a doubleheader with the Tigers on Friday where the Eagles fell 13-8 (8) and 2-0 (5).
In game one, Judson took a quick 2-0 advantage in the second inning when Mitchell Stempowski hit a sacrifice fly that plated Alec Spang, and Giovanni Davila had an RBI double to score Jordan Babcock. Judson scored twice more in the seventh with a Timothy Ellinger RBI double and an Adam Zeratsky sacrifice fly. Ellinger, Spang, Davila, and Alec MacLennan each had two hits for the Eagles. Brandon Callender pitched 6.2 innings, allowing 10 runs (nine earned) on 12 hits while striking out three and walking two. Ian Gonzalez pitched a scoreless frame of relief, striking out one.
Friday's opener needed an extra inning as the Eagles battled tough against the Tigers with the game being knotted up at eight heading into the eighth inning. Babcock got the Eagles on the board with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first. Davila hit a two-run single in the second inning to knot the game up at three. In the third, Babcock scored on a wild pitch to give Judson a brief 4-3 lead. A key error during Diego Munoz's fifth-inning at-bat allowed two more runs to score. In the sixth, Babcock tied the game with a two-run single to center. Benjamin Nelson, Davila, and Babcock had two hits apiece. Taylor Abercrombie got the start and allowed four runs (three earned) in three innings of work as he struck out two and walked four. Jacob Williams allowed five runs in 1.1 innings to take the loss. Carter Kotwica did not allow a run in 0.2 innings of work.
The series finale was shortened to five innings due to the weather. Davila and MacLennan each had a hit for the Eagles. Matthew Johnston (1-2) pitched all five innings allowing two earned runs on three hits while striking out five and walking three.
Judson (6-19, 3-9 CCAC) faces Clarke in Iowa on Wednesday in a non-conference affair.
