Baseball Beats Mt. Vernon 8-4, Falls to Grand View 10-2 to Begin Final Week in Florida

Auburndale, FL The Judson Eagles Baseball Team started this week with a 10-2 loss to Grand View and an 8-4 win against Mt. Vernon Nazarene.
Against Grand View, Alec Spang knocked in Judson's first run of the contest with an RBI single, plating Timothy Ellinger. In the eighth, Shane Bonner doubled to score Jake Angelo. Christopher Marlin and Angelo had the other two hits for the Eagles. Taylor Abercrombie pitched 4.2 innings, allowing seven runs on seven hits while walking three and striking out three to take the loss. Garrett Grosso pitched one inning of shutout ball in relief.
Against Mt. Vernon, Judson jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the first inning. Adam Zeratsky hit an RBI single, Jake Angelo hit a sacrifice fly, and Adam Zeratsky scored on a successful double steal. Shane Bonner hit an RBI single in the second, while Alec MacLennan did the same in the third inning to make the score 5-0. MVNU would pull within a run in the top of the seventh, but Alec Spang's bases-clearing three-bagger blew the game open once again for the Eagles. Brandon Callendar earned his first win of the season as he pitched five innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits while walking one and striking out one. Matthew Johnston earned his second save of the season, allowing one earned run in four innings of work, with four punchouts while allowing two hits and a walk.
Judson (2-8) faces Cornerstone for a doubleheader on Thursday.
