Making a name as a pitcher for the Judson baseball team, Jon Hanchett lettered three years and ranks in five top five categories. The 1972-73 Judson Male Athlete of the Year finished his career as the top pitcher with a career 2.23 ERA. He also ranks second in strikeouts (193) and wins (18), third in winning percentage (18-11; .621), and fifth in innings pitched (189.5). He was twice recognized with the Outstanding College Athlete of America award in his junior and senior seasons. The two-time NIIC All-Conference selection set two single season records in his final year at Judson in ERA (1.39) and wins in a season (8). Eleven different times he is named in a Judson single season record for his pitching. Along with being first for ERA and wins, he also owns the single amount of walks in a season with 11 in 62.6 innings pitched (1971). His other top 10 finishes in a single season are second in pitching record (8-2) and winning percentage (.800; 1973), fourth in strikeouts (75; 1971), sixth in wins (6; 1971), seventh in strikeouts (60; 1973), eighth in ERA (2.59; 1972), and 10th in pitching record/percentage (6-4, .600; 1971), strikeouts (58; 1972), and innings pitched (71.3; 1973). His team voted him the most inspirational player in 1971 and 1972, too. Playing one year of men's soccer, Hanchett had two goals and two assists for six points in the 1972 season as his team went 8-2-2.
