Freshmen Eagles Earn Award Honors

Elgin, IL - Two freshmen for the Eagles' Women's Basketball Team were honored with post-season accolades this week.

The first, is Charity Anderson. The forward from Hillside, IL closed with a flurry of star performances down the stretch. Anderson was named to the CCAC conference All-Freshmen Team for the 2023-2024 season.

In the month of February (7 games), she averaged 15 points per game and 7 rebounds per game. Anderson had 11 games where she scored double digit points, including two double-doubles on the season.

Among CCAC ranks, Anderson was top-25 in total rebounds (139), and top-40 in points scored with 236.

Anderson played in all 27 of the Eagles' games, and was a constant motor-running player at both ends of the floor. She was the do-all on the glass, and the floor-diver in a quest for every loose ball. Anderson's growth from the beginning of the year to the end was a constant upward trend. Her development improved game in and game out, and she was all-out hustle every game. It will certainly be exciting to see what year two brings for Anderson next year.

Her teammate, from Coppell, TX, guard Allyssa Potter was named to the NCCAA Second Team North Central All-Region Team for the 2023-2024 season.

Potter was a 3-point sharpshooter for the Eagles this season making 58 of them. Among NCCAA ranks, she finished in the top-15 for 3-pointers made.

She played in all 27 of the Eagles' games, with 23 of them being starts. She made at least one 3-pointer in 26 of the 27 games, and had as many as 5 3-pointers made in two ball games.

It was a constant learning process for Potter in year one, playing out of position at times due to team injuries. It will be exciting what the sharp-shooter can achieve in year two for JU.

Congratulations goes to both freshmen on a very solid and encouraging freshmen season.
