Eagles Get Sweep Against Calumet

Elgin, IL - In the midst of their marathon week, the Eagles' Softball team was able to accomplish something that had not been done in a few seasons. JU was able to sweep a double-header. On this day, it was against Calumet winning game one, 9-5, and game two 6-3. 

In game one, the Eagles took advantage of two big innings. In the second inning, they were able to string a few hits together to put a 4 spot up on the board. In the bottom of the fifth inning, after Calumet took a 5-4 lead, Judson was able to answer with five more runs to get the victory. 

The fifth inning alone saw the Eagles put together seven hits. 

Lexie Knowles led the way with three hits. Braly Wiser, Amelia Jimenez, Nikki Letzkus, and Bella Farias all added two hits each. 

Farias, and Ashlynn Avenarius led with 2 RBI's a piece. 

In the circle, Amelia Jimenez went the distance striking out four to get the win. 

 

In game two, team hitting was again present for Judson. JU racked up 11 more hits, with Lexie Knowles again having three, and Bella Farias adding two. 

The big hit was a two-run home run by Ari Esqueda to keep the Eagles ahead throughout. 

In the circle, Katelyn Kiefer picked up her first win of the season, throwing a clean 4 innings only allowing one run. Haley Slaymaker was able to get out of a fifth inning jam, and Kennedy Dietz did the same in the 6th to notch her first save of the season. 

The Eagles conclude their long week with two more against Roosevelt on Saturday.
