Chavez Sisters, Wiser Hit Home Runs in Doubleheader Loss to Trinity Christian

Elgin, Ill.     The Judson Eagles softball team's offense came primarily from the long ball on Saturday as the Eagles fell in both ends of a doubleheader to Trinity Christian 5-3 and 6-5.

In the first game, Judson scored single runs in the third, fourth, and fifth innings. In the third, Naomi Sweeney hit a single to right field followed by Lexie Knowles and Braly Wiser hitting into groundouts to move Sweeney along to third. Sarah Herbert made the most of her at-bat with an RBI single to right center to get Judson on the board. In the fourth inning, GiGi Velazquez and Autumn Johanninsmeier each singled to give Judson life with two outs in the inning. Knowles then hit an infield single toward second base as she dove into the first base bag to beat the throw to first base. In the fifth inning, Amaya Chavez hit a solo shot to right center to pull Judson within two runs.

Amelia Jimenez pitched 4.0 innings, allowing five runs (four earned) on five hits while walking one and striking out two. Sophie Schomer pitched the final three innings and did not allow a hit. An unearned run came across thanks to two walks and an error. She also struck out one.

In game two, Judson took the lead in the bottom half of the first inning thanks to the Chavez sisters. Sarah Herbert started the rally with a two-out single. Tatyana Chavez followed up with a double into right-center field that scored Herbert from third base. Amaya Chavez then knocked her sister in with a bloop double down the right-field line that gave Judson a two-run cushion.

Judson would not score again until the fifth inning, again, sparked by a two-out single from Sarah Herbert. Tatyana Chavez followed up with a line-drive two-run home run to left-center field to pull Judson within one. After Trinity Christian scored a much-needed insurance run, Judson answered with a Braly Wiser solo shot to left. Tatyana Chavez singled to left field to give Judson a two-out opportunity, but Amaya Chavez fouled out to the catcher to end the ballgame.

Schomer started, allowing two earned runs on six hits in three innings as she recorded a no-decision. Jimenez, by virtue of allowing Trinity Christian to score the go-ahead run in the fourth inning, took her second loss of the afternoon. She allowed three runs on four hits while walking two in 2.0 innings. Kennedy Dietz pitched the final two innings, allowing one earned run on two hits.

Judson (7-21, 4-13 CCAC) travels to Olivet Nazarene for their final CCAC doubleheader of the season.
