Judson Begins Final Weekend of Home Conference Play with Doubleheader Loss to St. Xavier

Elgin, Ill.     The Judson University Softball Team began a four-game weekend homestand with a doubleheader loss to St. Xavier 6-0 and 10-0.

 

Judson's best scoring opportunity in game one came in the first inning as Lexie Knowles started the Judson offense with a single and advanced to third via two consecutive groundouts. Tatyana Chavez then struck out swinging to end the inning. Sarah Herbert singled to start off the fourth inning but did not advance past second base. Sophie Schomer singled in the seventh, but also was stranded at second as the game concluded.

 

Amelia Jimenez pitched four innings as the starting pitcher and allowed two earned runs on five hits while walking three and striking out one. Sophie Schomer pitched 3.0 innings, allowing four earned runs on five hits while striking out four. 

 

In game two, Judson got all four of their hits in the last four innings of the contest. Herbert singled but did not advance past second base. Jimenez singled to start off the fifth, but was retired in a 5-4-3 double play immediately following. Autumn Johanninsgsmeier singled with two outs in that frame but did not advance further as Naomi Sweeney grounded out to third to retire the side. In the sixth inning, Herbert had another hit with two outs in the inning, but was left there following a Tatyana Chavez flyout. 

 

Kennedy Dietz pitched five innings, allowing four earned runs (six total) on 12 hits while walking one batter. Angelica Vasquez pitched an inning, allowing four runs on four hits while walking one and striking out one. 

 

Judson (7-21, 4-12 CCAC) faces Trinity Christian on Saturday in Elgin starting at noon.
