Chavez, Wiser with Home Runs in Doubleheader Loss to St. Ambrose

Elgin, Ill.     The Judson University Softball Team offense was sparked by the long ball in both games today as the Eagles fell to St. Ambrose by the scores of 6-3 and 8-5. 

 

In the opening contest, Judson trailed 3-0 in the sixth inning, but made a strong comeback as Amaya Chavez hit a two-run home to left field, and later scored on an Amelia Jimenez RBI double to right field to tie the game at three. St. Ambrose answered with three runs of their own in the top of the seventh inning. 

 

The Chavez sisters each had two hits to lead Judson, Jimenez, Lexie Knowles, and Sarah Herbert had the other base knocks for Judson. Jimenez pitched 6.1 innings, allowing six runs (five earned) on 10 hits while striking out two and walking one. Gigi Velazquez pitched 0.2 innings of shutout ball in a relief appearance.

 

In the second game, Tatyana Chavez had an RBI single to right field that scored Sarah Herbert to give Judson its first run of the game. Lexie Knowles had an RBI groundout in the fourth inning. Braly Wiser hit a three-run home run to right field in the fifth inning to give the Eagles a brief 5-4 lead prior to St. Ambrose scoring four runs in the sixth inning. Jimenez led Judson with three hits, while Herbert had a pair of base knocks. Six other Eagles recorded hits. Kennedy Dietz pitched all seven innings, allowing six earned runs (eight total) on nine hits, while walking one.

 

Judson (7-17, 4-8 CCAC) plays St. Francis on Wednesday for two games in Joliet.
