Late-Inning Rally Leads Eagles to Game 1 Win and Split Versus IUSB

South Bend, IN.    The Judson University Softball Team split their doubleheader versus ISUB on Saturday as the Eagles beat South Bend 6-5 and lost 10-0. 

 

In the opener, Judson trailed 5-0 heading into the fifth inning. The Eagles clawed back into the contest by scoring four runs in the fifth inning. Naomi Sweeney hit an RBI single that plated Amelia Jimenez. Sweeney later scored on an error. Lexi Knowles hit a sacrifice fly and Sarah Herbert had an RBI single. In the sixth, Jimenez doubled in Gigi Velasquez and then scored on an error to give Judson a 6-5 advantage. Braly Wiser and Jimenez had two hits apiece for Judson, accounting for half of the Eagles' eight hits. Jimenez pitched 7.0 innings, allowing five earned runs on eight hits while striking out three and walking six.

 

Judson was limited to three hits in game two. Herbert (single), Wiser (single), and Sweeney (double) had the three hits for the Eagles. Sophie Schomer took the loss as she allowed seven earned runs in 3.1 innings of work, striking out one. Angelica Vasquez allowed one run on two hits in relief. 

 

Judson (6-12, 3-3 CCAC) faces Roosevelt for two games on Wednesday in Rosemont.
