Late Game One Rally Leads to Split with Calumet to Open Conference Slate

Elgin, Ill.    The Judson Eagles Softball Team earned a doubleheader split with a 6-5 win and an 18-6 loss (6) on Friday afternoon in Elgin. 

 

In game one, Judson fell down by two runs twice. After trailing 2-0 in after an inning, Judson responded with a Braly Wiser three-run shot beyond the scoreboard in left field to give Judson a 3-2 lead. CCSJ scored the game's next three runs. Judson answered with a Tatyana Chavez two-run home run to tie the game in the fifth. In the sixth, Judson took the lead for good when Chavez reached on an error that scored Lexie Knowles. Knowles led Judson in game one with three hits, while Sarah Herbert and Stephanie Hause each had two hits apiece, Chavez and Wiser had the team's other two hits. Amelia Jimenez pitched a complete game allowing four earned runs (five total) on eight hits, while walking one and striking out one. 

 

In game two, Judson scored a pair of runs in the second inning Wiser had an RBI groundout, while Allie Arwood hit an RBI double to right center that scored Gigi Velazquez. Judson scored three more runs in the fourth inning as Autumn Johanningsmeier hit an RBI single that scored Velazquez and Wiser (on a throwing error). Later in the inning, Johanningsmeier scored on an error. In the fifth, Chavez hit her second home run of the day, a shot to dead center. Velazquez was the only Eagle to have two hits and two runs scored in the contest. Sophie Schomer (0-5) got the start, allowed eight runs (seven earned) on 11 hits, and struck out one in an inning of work.

 

Judson (5-9, 1-1 CCAC) is now off until Friday when the Eagles face Roosevelt.
