Eagles Fall Short Against D-1 Loyola Maryland

Orlando, FL - In the second of Judson tennis Spring breaks 5 matches, the eagles faced NCAA D1 opposition Loyola Maryland in what was promised to be a hotly contested matchup.

The Eagles come out flying, getting ahead early with #3 Alexandre Veltkamp and Chadd Kerrigan winning convincingly 6-3. Promising freshman duo #1 Nicolas Donoso Soruco and Cesar Otondo Villafan clinched the doubles point with a compelling 6-4 victory.

With the Eagles heading into the singles 1-0 up in the tie, #6 Cesar Otondo Villafan came out firing, forcefully pushing the eagles to a 2-0 lead with a 6-0 6-3 win.

Despite the first set being dropped on all other courts, the boys were promised a long fight. Despite vicarious fightbacks, #3 Joshua Bavich and #5 Julius Fortun were defeated 6-1 7-6 and 7-5 6-3 respectively. However, this was quickly rebounded from by #1 Alex Veltkamp, #2 Chadd Kerrigan and #4 Nicolas Donoso who all closed out tiring second sets to force third set finishes.

With the tie poised for a nail-biting finish, #2 Chadd Kerrigan was toppled in a wearying 4-6 7-6 0-6 loss. #1 Alexandre Veltkamp also fell short late on with a 2-6 6-4 4-6 loss giving the D1 outfit the clinching rubber for the day. The day was graciously ended with #4 Nicolas Donoso closing out a 2-6 7-6 6-1 victory. With the boys falling just short, Loyola Maryland walked away with a 4-3 victory on the day.

The Eagles will now look towards tomorrow's double headed contest against #6 Southeastern and NCAA D1 outfit University of Charleston in what situates itself as a tough proposition for the Eagles.
